- RANDY JACKSON CREATES A NEW SENSATION- Randy Jackson is known for his cool persona and impeccable style and you just can't miss the eyewear he rocks every week on American Idol. During the performance review the cameras zoom in, Randy say's "kinda pitchy dawg" and all you notice are those cool frames he is wearing. When American men, the last great eyewear-wearing conformists (67% of them wear glasses), weren't looking, Randy Jackson almost single-handedly made it cool to wear "noticeable" specs. The Cowboy Hat - Defining Attire For North American Cowboys and High Style

!±8± The Cowboy Hat - Defining Attire For North American Cowboys and High Style

The cowboy hat is the defining piece of attire for the North American cowboy without doubt. When a child sees someone with one, they think, and often say, "cowboy!" They can be defined as a wide brimmed hat with a high crown, but everyone knows one when they see one. Actually, the traditional of wearing similar hats goes all the way back to Mongolian horsemen in the 13th century. It is not an American invention.

Cowboy hats are made of felt commonly, but straw and leather are also common today. They normally have a small band inside to help hold them on the head and a decorative headband on the outside. They come in all colors, but brown, black, and beige are most common. In Western movies, the bad guys wore black hats and the good guys wore white hats. Even today, the term "black hat" refers to someone engaged in unethical or illegal activity and "black hat" refers to someone engaged in purely legitimate activity, with "gray hats" coming somewhere in between.

Today, cowboy hats are of course worn by real cowboys, horseback based animal herders, as well as country-western singers and aficionados, and anyone who wants a good hat for working outside.

Although the original cowboy hats, invented by J. B. Stetson, w ere fairly simple, today's hats run the gamut of colors, decorations, and styles.  In fact the J.B. Stetson Company is still producing them and has been since 1865. And they still look great and work well!
